The Coronal Plane

The coronal plane, also referred to as the frontal plane, is a longitudinal plane that runs vertical and divides the body into front (anterior) and back (posterior) sections.

Coronal

The Coronal (Frontal) Plane divides the body into front (anterior; ventral) and back (posterior; dorsal) sections.

Looking at the front of the body is the anterior; coronal; ventral or frontal view.

Looking at the back of the body is the posterior; coronal or dorsal view.

The coronal axis is perpendicular to both the sagittal plane (vertical) and the transverse plane (horizontal).

To view this plane one must look along the length of the coronal axis.

Abduction and adduction are terms for movements of limbs relative to the coronal plane.
