The Transverse Plane

The transverse plane also known as the horizontal plane, the axial plane, or the transaxial plane is a horizontal plane that divides the body into upper (superior) and lower (inferior) sections

The Transverse Plane is a cross-section that divides the body into upper (superior) and lower (inferior) sections.

The transverse plane is perpendicular to both the coronal plane and the sagittal plane.

Looking at a cross-section from the head down (inferior) is referred to as the superior transverse view.

Looking at a cross-section from the feet up (superior) is referred to as the inferior transverse view.

Rotation is the term for the primary movements of limbs relative to the transverse plane.
